What Happened on August 8, 2005: Caritas Silver Jubilee

August 8, 2005, Monday

August 8, 2005 was the day the charter flight left for Medjugorje. Our Lady had told us the apparition would be at 8:00 AM, so the community gathered at 7:00 a.m. to begin the Rosary. There were many pilgrims who were a part of the “Birth to Assumption” pilgrimage who had come to the Field to be near Our Lady for the early morning apparition. This was the final apparition of Marija’s stay at Caritas, ending the beautiful days with Our Lady in which She had blessed the community with so many graces, including giving Her Special Blessing on two occasions, praying over each of the community members in the July 31st apparition, coming with angels in the Field on August 5, among so many other beautiful experiences with thousands of pilgrims being blessed and experiencing conversion. . There was no time to reflect upon all that though the effort was made during this last Rosary in the Bedroom. Organizing and maintaining a smooth pilgrimage of 200 pilgrims kept the community very busy and filled with activity for the next 11 days. It wouldn’t be until after the community came home that they had a little time for reflection. However, even that was short lived as Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast just a few days after our return and our community became heavily involved in the rescue and restoration efforts. But there have been many moments to reflect on these beautiful apparitions with Our Lady over the years, though we are never able to fully penetrate the mystery that surrounded Our Lady’s visit on Her birthday in August, 2005.

In the last apparition of August 8 2005, Marija said, “Our Lady blessed us, She prayed over us and She blessed us. And I asked Our Lady to bless those in the Field. Our Lady make Sign of Cross.”

charter

BVM/Caritas that made history in August 2005 by chartering the first direct flight from the U.S. to nearby Mostar. It takes approximately 30 minutes to drive from Mostar to Medjugorje.

charter

BVM/Caritas pilgrims, after just arriving in Mostar, depart from the plane to begin the process of loading up on several buses to their final destination of Medjugorje. The Mostar airport had not been used by civilians since the war in the early 1990’s. During this war, Mostar was a major target and was constantly bombarded. There was massive destruction throughout the city, including many historical sites. With the landing of the Caritas charter flight, it was an indication to the world that this historic city had come back from the rubble.

newspaper

The successful landing of the Caritas charter flight at the Mostar airport was reported in the local area newspapers for three consecutive days. But the story was also carried around the world by international news sources. We were pretty amazed when we heard from supporters in Chicago, California and New York tell us they had heard on network news channels about the Caritas flight to Mostar. It gave international exposure to Medjugorje of which we were certain Our Lady was responsible for making that happen.

  1. Susan your words say exactly what we also feel!! The deep tender love of Mother Mary for us and being able to go back to Caritas for the beautiful celebration of The 40th Anniversary of Our Holy Queen Mother of Medjugore is an enormous gift from Heaven. My husband Mark is a quiet man but he also became Catholic after our May/June 2015 Rome&Medjugore pilgrimage with our beloved Caritas family.   PLEASE more ?? field angels are needed. CARITAS OF BIRMINGHAM do so much for Mother Mary every day!!❤❤??

  2. Day1 was June 24, 1981, day 40 was August 2, 1981.  40 days after that was September 11, 1981, exactly 20 years before the twin towers fell. This September 11 will be exactly 20 years after the disaster, which divides the 40 years right down the middle.   The collapse of the building in Miami happened on June 24 this year, 40 years after Our Lady first appeared in Medjugorje.  I am reminded of the following scripture verse: “Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?  I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” (Luke 13: 4-5 NIV) I am sorry if this comment sounds rather gloomy,  but I thought the dates and events were worth mentioning in context with the number 40.  May the souls of all who perished rest in peace…. and pray for us, amen.

  4. So many emotions that it is hard to truly express my deep love and appreciation I have for Our Lady and for Caritas.  Medjugorje is the reason I became Catholic and I will NEVER stop believing in Her Messages and for being grateful for all of your hard work.  God bless y’all ❤️?

Visiting Caritas for the 1st time, moved by Our Lady, during a NY winter, I  planned to sleep in my vehicle, without money for a hotel. With long hair, an unkempt beard and I  a little limp, caused by so many hours driving, with a poorly designed foot tunnel, I looked in many ways, like the poor person, described at the beginning of FOM’S discussion.  Without notice, a call, an email, or anything, I simply parked at the Caritas site and started walking around, talking to different members of the community.  After Being invited to Rosary in the field, they asked me, this stranger, if I’d like to have lunch with them,  I did. As the day progressed I worked beside them & offered to do what they wanted, which led to my being allowed to clean Our Lady’s print shop, and other parts of Her Tabernacle.  It was wonderful,  with so many things around to keep me prayerful, thoughtful and diligent.  At some point in the day, I believe it was Reyes,  he asked if I’d like to stay in the trailer with the Community’s,  “Zio’s,” a name for Uncles, overnight. I chose to stay, and continued to work with them, including helping to saw wood at the sawmill, or clean up the work shop. etc. Now eating my meals besides them, sleeping in the same quarters as they did, and following their prayer life, I was asked if I wanted to go to a community wedding, which was coming up.   How could I say no? At the event,  I saw the most Spiritual Wedding possible. Inside a wonderful Church, in the aisles furthest from each other, a structure had been set up, one for Bride, and the other for Groom, being kept separated, as they prepared to present themselves before Our Heavenly Family, and take the vows of Matrimony. Coming out from the Wedding Mass, everyone was greeted by a carpet of fresh white snow, and icicles in the trees, a Certain Blessing, for this New Union. Later, back at Caritas, the Wedding Feast began, and I couldn’t help but feel as though I’d somehow stepped right into the pages of the Bible. Here were these people, I never met before, who not only opened their home to this stranger, but also their hearts as well. There was nothing I did to deserve anything, it was all an Unconditional Grace, given to me, by this True Christian Community. In Truth,  if I’d shown up with nothing to wear, I’m sure I would have wound up with something, from every single one of them, even if they didn’t have a single thing to Spare. They are your New Brothers and Sisters in Christ.  They work for Your Salvation and the Salvation of the Whole World.   They are Blessed and a True Blessing to All……AMEN !

Thanks a lot to a Friend of Medjugorje and the community. We are really entering in the time of the land. We have to find which is the land Our Lady is calling us to. The Land could be also our mission or our task in life. Could be incredible things like Abraham thought about having a son at 99. Your Talk today opened such a wide range of actions, thoughts and feelings !! Thanks a lot!!!

  7. On June 23, 2021 at around 2:30 a.m. CDT, I was awakened by what sounded like a frightful meow from a cat too close to the house. I got up to close the window and noticed a bright light. It was a brilliant light! The night was full of light from a cross in the sky with a full moon eucharist at the center.  The light of the cross reached in rays to the earth, very gently. Slowly waking up fully, I thought it was an incredible sight of a full moon. I laid back down with my head on the pillow to fall back to sleep, and then looked out the window again. Wow. It was so awesome I wondered how many others are able to see this sight. There’s no way I could sleep, so I thought this is my moment to pray. While I prayed the Lord’s Prayer & Hail Marys, I watched the sight & noticed the cross and eucharist moon moving like a setting sun. It reminded me of Medjugorje. I had that same heartfelt feeling of God’s presence and the presence of Our Lady in Medjugorje. I prayed for all those in union with the 40th Anniversary of apparitions in Medjugorje. I haven’t ever seen the moon move this fast and the shadows from a tree branch seemed to indicate the movement was even circular. I was awake now and moved away from the window for a moment to comprehend this moment. Is this really happening? I continued praying and then looked out the window again and the sky was dark. I didn’t even see a moon. I could only see a dark sky and a street light in the distant. I checked the time and it was now 4:30 a.m. I have so much on my plate today and need my sleep, but God is telling me to keep Him in my sight as my #1 priority. When I pray, I probably sound like that fearful meowing cat that woke me up, although I didn’t see the cat that night. I feel God is close to us now on earth as the rays of light from the cross touched the ground. Keep joining Him in Eucharist. God is in control. He will show us the signs of His love at surprising moments in the simplicity of our days. Trust in God. Thanks for reading this note. It’s one of those moments that stays on my mind.

  10. Our family was on that flight/trip! Our Lady had started on us on our 1st Caritas trip in 1998;but Her way took root even more deeply after 2005. One of HIGHLIGHTS of this trip (no pun intended here) was celebrating Mass on the plane both ways. When the priest raised up Jesus, and we just knew Our Lady was right there with all 200 of us, well, the feeling of holiness could be felt by all. Please say more on this life changing trip.

  11. I’ve read much information at your website about the beautiful Caritas Community, Our Lady’s Messages, and Medjugorje itself, over this past year, but this is the very first Radio WAVE broadcast I have ever heard, and WoW!! I was moved by the insight and detail a Friend of Medjugorje provides here. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. It brings a new light to the message, that otherwise, may not have been seen..
