Our Lady Queen of Peace of Medjugorje, September 25, 2020
We have gone through this 9-day fast together, joined with almost 600 people across the world, united in our hearts for Our Lady’s intentions for our Nation and the world, that miracles could take place.
We continued to hear from people even yesterday, who started the fast late, or who did the 9-day fast, but, because they were not sure they could make it, did not sign up. We also heard from people who had no idea how they could possibly make it, yet, were surprised that they did. Below are a few of your letters, which continue to pour in:

“This is the end of my nine day fast. I prepared for this and prayed for the ability to complete the fast. I am 68 years old, blessed with good health and I will say have unbelievably easy this was. I have felt very good the entire time. I am totally amazed how quickly the time went. I will also declare that I felt the hand of Our Lady and the Holy Spirit during this time in making some very important financial decisions and felt that I was saved from a near-fatal automobile accident. I unintentionally put myself in grave danger while driving with 2 of my grandchildren and truly believe it was divine intervention that protected us from being run over. I will cherish this time & the Novena and plan to do a day of fasting on a weekly basis for Peace and Our Lady’s wishes/plans and defeating satan in the future. Thank you to Caritas for this opportunity. I was blessed to visit the Caritas Community this summer and it has changed my life.”

“Dear Caritas, As I get up this morning excited to have my first cup of coffee in 9 days I can’t help but feel such gratitude for the community at Caritas and A Friend of Medjugorje. I have done the 9 day fast a few times before but have “cheated” with a cup of coffee or tea or maybe even a sweet muffin But this time was able to stay completely committed to a total bread and water fast for Our Lady. The graces abounded! It was an amazingly holy 9 days filled with many beautiful moments! This was the first time my husband did a 9 day fast and it was such a privilege to do this together for Our Lady, the Caritas 3 special intentions and for our country. Our lives were forever changed when we came to the 5 days of prayer for the reconciliation of ourselves, our families and our nation back to God in 1999. You have remained our constant source of inspiration and we thank God for you and all you do to spread Our Lady’s messages. Always in our prayers.”

“I completed the 9-day fasting yesterday in God’s grace. It’s a miracle in itself as I have mentioned in my first post here that I could not even complete a 1 day fast before. All praises to my Redeemer who sent me graces throughout the fasting days. I cannot explain where I got the fervor to really stick to bread and water! Yesterday before supper I really felt so hungry and thirsty and a voice inside told me “now you understood what it feels to be hungry and thirsty. So many of your brothers are feeling the same way, not because of choice but because they have really nothing. Be charitable, feed the hungry & thirsty.” I realized, this fasting is just really a beginning of something new. A higher calling from God. Somehow, this fasting cleared cobwebs in me that hinder me to see clearly my purpose. God has been so gentle showing me one step at a time, like a toddler just beginning to learn how to walk. Thank you Jesus, Mama Mary, my guardian angel & to Caritas Community. ”

I am a diabetic and I wondered if I would be able to fast for 9 days. However, I was determined and I completed the 9 days without a problem. I watched my blood sugar and did not take insulin for 2 days. I felt good the entire time eating only 4 slices of bread per day. I never felt hungry and I lost 12 pounds as well. I look forward to fasting again including the prayers.
My husband & I were 2 of the hundreds who completed the 9-day Fast with Caritas. First, I want to thank God for the opportunity to particpate! In a time when it can feel that we are powerless to the forces of the world, it was very comforting to think each day that hundreds of us were fasting together for such a noble cause! I pray that God accepted our offering! Second, my husband can’t eat gluten & I can only eat it sometimes. We spent evenings baking different kinds of gluten free breads and reading aloud from the book, A Table in the Presence, recommended in Look What Happened While You Were Sleeping. Some of our breads were better than others, but the experience of doing all of this together was spiritually uniting! We pulled up Random Messages, and sure enough, it always spoke to how we felt about the fast each day! It seems we are both suddenly more able to speak and interact with our adult children in a way where we feel the Presence of Jesus and Our Lady! “Praise by Jesus!”
This 9 day fast was I hyped up. I toatally couldnt let Mama Blessed Virgin Mary down. I was so scared to tell my friends and people at work. But I told my grandmother, my clients and co- workers at the nursing home. Boy, this year I was so hungry. I anticipated many prayers candles and cake bread to CELEBRATE THE month of the Holy Rosary and 103rd anniversary of the miracle of the sun. I brought flowers for my altar and a Fatima candle for the week. I noticed miraculously in prepartion for this fast, my leg, my hip, my lower back, my midsection torso is unusually tighten and stiff, and during this fast, I could feel the presence of healing and protection and consolation to never leave Mama Blessed Virgin Mary, and this rosary is proof that it heals, and suggested if everyone prayed like this we would all feel better. I was tempted to be angry then God showed me just look how small you are. I kept silent then peace came to rest on my soul. I felt so loved in this fast . Thanksgiving to God, Caritas
I was thanking God all day yesterday for giving me the fortitude to complete the 9-day fast! I wanted so much to do this for Our Blessed Mother. On Day 6 I woke up with a migraine and almost gave up, but then realized I could offer that, too! One personal blessing for me was that I learned to make gluten-free bread, which I baked daily, and even my husband enjoyed it! All thanksgiving and praise goes to The Holy Spirit for the gift of fortitude! Praise be Jesus! Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!
The first night of the fast, the sky turned powder blue at sunset with bright rose colored clouds! The next morning at sunrise was even more brillant. The clouds were large and feathered, bright rose, like amazing angelic wings. This did not happen again. Funny, a few days in my sense of smell really heightened. I could smell someone heating up food no where near me. As time passed, some days were harder than others but the last stretch was effortless and amazing graces started flowing into my life. I actually missed it when it was over. I will fast now on Wed/Fri and another novena in due time.
I thought the comment WWG1WGA was very profound because this isn’t an isolated experience but an experience for all to move forward in their spiritual relationship with Mary and Her Son. The graces that we receive from Mary and Jesus are a form of encouragement that should give us a deep sense of hope and peace. I believe this with my whole heart. Going from here is going to be lead by Mary–She knows the direction, speed and the depth of what needs to be healed. Mary is a great Lady, thank you for everything you have done. Love Joanne
Thank You, Blessed Mother, Thank You, Father God in Heaven, Thank You Christ Jesus, Thank You Holy Spirit & thank you, Caritas, for the opportunity & earthly support during our 9 days together! I always feel some slight trepidation leading up to the 9 day fast: Can I do it? Will I be able to fight off temptations & stay the course? And “PLEASE don’t let me fail or disappoint!” but as the testimonies above show, we do not do this fast alone – not only do we have each other but we have Those in Heaven at our side, cheering us on & indeed, protecting us. The blessings are so worth the inconvenience, discomfort & disruption & getting to the other side of the fast, how beautiful the time that we united ourselves in body, mind, spirit & soul.
