Upon Pope John Paul II’s return to Rome after his visit to Sarajevo, Bosnia-Hercegovina, during his general audience, he said:
“In the course of the war, pilgrimages of the faithful to the Marian shrine in Bosnia-Hercegovina did not stop…in order to request the Mother of Nations and the Queen of Peace to intervene in that suffering region.â€
John Paul II’s reference to the Queen of Peace was an acknowledgement of the faithful’s devotion to Our Lady in Medjugorje. Our Lady had made it known in the early days of the apparitions in Medjugorje that the title She wished to be known by in Medjugorje is the “Queen of Peace.â€
