Fr. Jozo Zovko, the parish priest of Medjugorje at the beginning of the apparitions in 1981, gave an interview with a Croatian newspaper. In the interview, he stated that he had met Pope Francis when he was still Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina. Fr. Jozo said:
“We spent a long time together and talked about everything in Buenos Aires…He is a good choice for a Church that is getting better, and there is no better person than Francis to rebuild the Church. Pope Francis’ gift to the Church is a fruit of the grace at this time. He dares to talk about our failures.”
