A Friend of Medjugorje had been offering prayers for our Nation for many years, which after starting Caritas, resulted into the annual Five Days of Prayer for the Reconciling of Ourselves, Our Families and Nation Back to God, which takes place every December 8-12 at Caritas. In the summer of 2001, a Friend of Medjugorje spoke to Medjugorje visionary Marija about coming to Caritas for the 9th annual Five Days of Prayer. Marija told a Friend of Medjugorje that she would pray about it.
Then, Tuesday, September 11, 2001, took place. We stood in shock, with all the school kids gathered around one of the trucks listening to the radio, hearing what was taking place, while our Community members manning the phones were hearing first-hand eyewitness accounts calling in. Four planes were hijacked, with two planes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane crashing into the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and another plane where the hijackers were overtaken by passengers crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 lives were lost on that day. With all of the wars and unrest since then, it is safe to say that since September 11, 2001, the world has never been the same. But, there is also another way in which the world has never been the same.
Just a few days following the events of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, a Friend of Medjugorje again spoke to Medjugorje visionary Marija about coming to Caritas. Marija said to a Friend of Medjugorje on the phone, “I come. Your country needs this.”
Needless to say, the healing power of having our Mother with us during those five days in December 2001, were beyond what anyone could expect. As a Friend of Medjugorje has said often since then, that, God allowed the events of September 11, 2001, to take place. Though September 11, 2001, was painful, the result was a humbling of our hearts, repentance, and an increase of prayer, which brings a blessing. This was the reason a Friend of Medjugorje started the December 8-12, Five Days of Prayer: to humble ourselves and repent before God. These Five Days of Prayer along with many other prayers movements, helped bring about the conditions for that to take place. The blessing was that fact that we were graced with Our Lady’s presence here at Caritas for a Consecration of Our Nation, on July 3, 2008, and then again July 2009, July 2012 and July 2013. The fruit of those Consecrations are the blessings we are now seeing today.
The world has never been the same, but just as there is increasing shadows of darkness, Our Lady’s light is increasing, as a Friend of Medjugorje just wrote about in, What God is Increasing Daily… Thank God for Our Lady’s presence in the world. Through the darkness, She has stood by us, caring for us and making us stronger. The world has never been the same, because Our Lady is more present. Marija’s words to a Friend of Medjugorje, “Your country needs this,” – “this,” is Our Lady. She is what our Country needs. This day, as a day of rememberance, should also be a day of thanksgiving that God had a path of healing for our Nation, and it has been through Our Lady.

December 12, 2001, as we prayed the Patriotic Rosary, we laid our Nation at the feet of Our Lady, in Her presence; torn, broken, awaiting Her to raise us up. Through the fight for the soul of our Nation, She stood…

There She Stands
When the night, Seems to say
All hope is lost, Gone away
But I know I’m not alone
By the light, She stands
There she waves, Faithful friend
Shimmering stars, Westward wind
Show the way, Carry me
To the place She stands
Just when you think it might be over
Just when you think the fight is gone
Someone will risk his life to raise her
There she stands
There she flies, Clear blue skies
Reminds us with red, Of those that died
Washed in white, By the brave
In their strength, She stands
When evil calls itself a martyr
When all your hopes come crashing down
Someone will pull her from the rubble
There She stands
We’ve seen her flying torn and tattered
We’ve seen Her stand the test of time
And through it all the fools have fallen
There She stands
By the dawn, Early light
And through the fight
She stands

Beautiful!!! Can so feel the Holy Spirit and Her presence listening to this. And as I was listening, praying, “My God, help me to teach my children….”. My oldest was just shy of being 5 months on 9/11. He has grown up with this as a birth year remembrance. And I see him taking it to heart as God calls him in his plan for his life. We watched the videos of the day. I don’t shelter my kids. They should know, carry it in their hearts, and pass the truth of that day on , and pray for the souls of all who died that day. Mother Mary, pray for us!

In everything God gives us a gift. I’ve been struggling all day as I remember what happened 17 years ago and before i go to sleep the song and your message makes me remember how wonderful Our Blessed Mother Mary has been to us and how the Patriotic Rosary gives solace to all of us who are hurting today. God bless you and Caritas of Birmingham. Thank you for your powerful reminder. Susan
This is so touching. I write this with tears in my eyes. May God bless our county and open the eyes of those who want to change it. Blessed Mother please pray for us!
