Thirty-three years ago on this day, Our Lady began to guide a Friend of Medjugorje in co-founding the Caritas Community.
On December 13, 1988, the apparition took place in the Bedroom. After the apparition, Marija turned to a Friend of Medjugorje and said that Our Lady desired him to start a community.
Father Robert Faricy, a Jesuit who wrote several books on Medjugorje, was present during the apparitions on December 13 and 14, 1988. He was amazed and said:
“I visited Marija in Birmingham and prayed with her and the others when Our Lady came to her in the bedroom. Not even in Medjugorje did I feel so strongly Mary’s presence as I did during Her apparition to Marija in Birmingham.”
The apparitions of November 1988 – January 1989 were profound. Nowhere outside of Medjugorje had Our Lady done the things which She did in a Friend of Medjugorje’s home.
In the years that followed, Our Lady gave a Friend of Medjugorje the discernment necessary to form the Community in “a way.”
“A Way” was how Our Lady showed him how to live according to the messages. A Friend of Medjugorje felt that what Our Lady was showing him was not just a breaking from the society of today, but the forming of a new society for the future. He has understood from the messages that this “way” is how future people will live. All those who would join the Community by living here in Alabama, or as Extended Community would join in living what Our Lady showed him – a unique way of placing the Medjugorje messages into life.

My experience in Medjugorje in 2009 with the Caritas group was amazingly uplifting and confirming that God’s gift of our Our Lady’s presence to us is true.
My experience at Caritas in Birmingham AND Marija’s apparitions in 2008 were so extraordinary that not a day goes by without some portion of that memory surfacing. From the moment I stepped on the ground there I knew it was Holy ground. LOL! I felt like ” jelly” .I asked someone approaching me where the field of apparitions was ? ” Right behind you” they said ! This ground was Consecrated by prayers and sacrifice Our Lady responded in turn.
That is the kind of impact that continued through several Caritas visits and Marija’s apparitions there. The grace abounds here now even when I came at a time Marija was not present .What a timely gift this is to our country !

I want to come to the community in the new year. I have had it on my heart to come there for the last few years. I live in NJ but would not object to moving to alabama in the future. I have always been a person that liked to live simple and at one time had a small farm and animals and would have loved to stayed in that life style but I had to sell the farm due to a divorce. I was very happy there. I am 68 yrs. old so it is too late to have that again but I think that is the way people are meant to live-simple and live for what is important. God First. I have been on pilgrimage to Medjugore a few times I would love to come again on pilgrimage to Medjugore as I did felt a great peace while I was on my Pilgrimage in Medjugore , I love my Mother Mary n love so much to read her messages I feel calmness , joy , peace , wisdom , in my heart Amen
