Our Lady of Medjugorje just recently told us on August 25, 2011:
What does fasting do for us? Through what is written below, taken from the FASTING booklet, by a Friend of Medjugorje, one can easily see not only the good of fasting, but also the harm of not fasting.
Fasting is Your Ammunition

A Caritas Community child eating a piece of bread on a fast day. The founder of the Caritas Community felt a strong inspiration for the Community children to be taught the tradition of having a love for bread. For Jesus taught us to pray to the Father, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Fasting therefore should not just be an action that is done twice a week, fasting should become a way of life.
Fasting is the cause of so much good, that as Christians, not to use it would be like having weapons without ammunition. Prayer is the cannon; fasting is the cannon ball; love is the powder, once fired, which sends it. It may seem odd or hard to accept speaking of prayer, fasting, and love in this way, but all of the following are the exact terminology Our Lady has used in Her messages, especially in regard to satan:
“conquer, protect, defend, advance, retreat, attack, guard, armor, battle, defeat, struggle, surrender, drive off, time of battle with satan.”
These, along with many other words, are clear messages that we are in battle, and fasting is your ammunition.
St. John Vianney was hated most by the devil because of his fasting and fasting from sleep. We are in a great battle and the weapons we have, such as the Rosary, becomes much more powerful coupled with fasting.

You, as an individual, have the power to alter and impact the world. It is a mistake to underestimate the good you bring into the world through your fasting and prayer. It is time, in this special time, to bring it back into the Church; for priests to encourage it; for bishops to preach of it; for them to give examples and witness themselves by doing it. It is to spread over the whole Church and with it will spread the mantle of Our Lady to protect them in leading us, through the Church, into the new time Our Lady announced on Her Fourteenth Anniversary.

I was in Medjugorje 23 years but somehow our Lady’s call for daily rosary and fasting after a while was forgotten. In July 2008 at Caritas, I believe Our Lady wants to console me to remove my guilty feelings by Marija Lunetti’s words “Forget the past what is important is NOW, PRAY, FAST, LOVE, CONVERT. Maria said this as I was just raising my hand to pose the question to her.Fasting is part of my life now again. I do not have special intentions for it but since Our Lady said so, I do it.
When I was very young, you had to fast 12 hours before Holy Communion but now I can actually forget to fast and still receive Him, since the time window is almost nothing! I will try to avoid buying things on fast days, and avoid raffles or things that make me want to win, while I struggle with the food part.
We must work more harder to spread the messages to lots and lots of people in order to defeat satan!
I am so excited about this 9 day fast Novena as I have never fasted this long but I have been attacked by the devil through my family and he is trying to break up my marriage to the point that I even asked my husband for a divorce to which I later was sorrowfully remorse and asked his forgiveness. I need this weapon of great mighty grace. I let my guard down and now know that prayer and fasting is the only answer to do battle with satan. I trust Jesus will be with me and that God will honor me and save my marriage from satan. Praise be the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary. Give us this day our daily bread… Fasting on bread and water is a gift and a grace God gives us..our daily bread. If I do not fast out of love, my fast is useless. I struggle with fasting and I have been praying to the holy spirit to give me the gift of fasting from the heart. Today is Friday, Sept.2….I wait with hope for Our Lady to speak to our hearts of unbelief.
