A New Commission Assigned to Look into Medjugorje

A New Commission Assigned to Look into Medjugorje

Cardinal Vinko Puljic, president of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Bishops’ Conference and Archbishop of Sarajevo, on the heels of Bishop Peric’s condemnation and the latest scientific reports on the visionaries, announces that:

“The Catholic Church is starting a new commission that will look into the Medjugorje events.”

Not since the war has there been an active commission studying the apparitions in Medjugorje. However, as Rome was being petitioned more often to clarify Medjugorje’s position, the Congregation of the Doctrine for the Faith, again moved to establish a national commission to continue to monitor the events of Medjugorje. The commission would have a particular emphasis on the question of shrine status as Bishop Peric had required that the parish of Medjugorje not use the word “shrine” when speaking about Medjugorje.
