The Five Days of Prayer to Reconcile Ourselves, Our Families and Our Nation Back To God began today, December 8, 2008, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and will end on December 12, the Feast of Our Lady of the Americas. This is the 16th anniversary of the Five Days of Prayer, and the 20th anniversary of Our Lady first appearing in the Bedroom and the Field at Caritas in 1988. Since 1988 there have been over 140 apparitions in the Bedroom and the Field, the latest being the apparitions in July when the United States was consecrated to Our Lady in Her presence on July 4th, in the Field, by thousands gathered from all 50 states. These December days of prayer is the culmination of the seven novenas that were prayed each month, starting this past June. Both those who have never been here before, and those who return every year have gathered to pray to Our Lady for their families and the nation. It is a serious time of prayer, but also the days are filled with joy in seeing old friends and participating in the daily activities that have made these five days of prayer special to so many.
Each year, at the start of the five days, The Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages is re-consecrated to Our Lady, and each floor and room is blessed with Holy Water and Holy Salt as the community and pilgrims sing litanies to Jesus, Our Lady, St. Joseph and the saints, asking for their intercession and protection. Always, we remember in prayer all those who donated in the early 1990’s to the building of Our Lady’s Tabernacle. It can not even be estimated as to the tens of thousands of hearts that have been moved towards conversion over the years through the work that takes place in this special building built and dedicated to seeing the plans of Our Lady of Medjugorje fulfilled.
Our Lady reminds us in Her messages that the Rosary can work miracles in our lives. She has also said grasp for the Rosary and carry it with you at all times as a sign to satan that we belong to Her and Her Son, Jesus Christ. Here in the Field at Caritas, the Rosary was prayed in union with the prayers being said in Medjugorje at the same time (10:40 a.m. Alabama time, 5:40 p.m. Medjugorje time) preparing for Our Lady’s coming. Everyday the community prays at this time, honoring the time of Our Lady’s apparition in Medjugorje. Together in the Field on this December 8, we were asking for Our Lady’s intercession to continue to lead our nation back to God.
