When Jesus was dying on the Cross, His comfort of having Our Lady at His feet was comfort to His anguished heart, and a quench for His thirst. Likewise, thousands are drawn to Apparition Mountain every second of the month by a thirst for something they cannot quench elsewhere. The thirst is so great that they overcome many trials and obstacles, journeying to the Virgin Mary in the village of Medjugorje, seeking to satisfy their great thirst – and they find it.
As in a family, when a child is sick, they thirst for the comforting presence of their mother, while the father, the strength of his family, supports the mother as she nurses their children to health. The world is sick, individuals are sick, families are sick. God the Father sends the Mother to His children.

Mirjana spoke of the sicknesses in the world, especially among Christians. She said in an interview:
“…Today many people have forgotten. Many people choose things that pass away. Many are unaware of Truth, drunk on the pleasures of the world, blinded by the intellect, and crippled by selfishness.”1
Our Lady said on October 25, 2006:
For those who thirst, come to the Mother that has been sent to quench our thirst. Come to Medjugorje, come to the Mother, quench your thirst, comfort your heart.
