Self-Esteem?

Self-Esteem?

July 2, 2020 A.D.

Ten years ago today, Our Lady said, through Mirjana:

July 2, 2010

“To come to know and to love yourself, you must come to know my Son…”

There is alot said in this sentence. More so than can be understood by a first read. Is Our Lady talking about “self-esteem”? We will need to look at this, because it has the ability to really change our life.

Medjugorje visionary Mirjana seeing Our Lady on July 2, 2010

(Medjugorje photo taken on Friday, July 2, 2010, 8:46 AM) – Medjugorje visionary Mirjana receives Our Lady on July 2, 2010, exactly ten years ago today. The time this picture was taken is interesting, because one thing which a Friend of Medjugorje pointed out, when the second of the month apparitions started to be more frequent, was that Our Lady started to appear at 9 AM, Medjugorje time. Some pilgrims would wait all night, others would show up at the last minute. As more people started to show up later, and closer to the time of the apparition, Our Lady started to appear a little bit earlier, and some who came at the last minute would miss the apparition. A Friend of Medjugorje often questioned aloud, whether Our Lady was purposely doing this to keep people from becoming lazy, and to get there earlier to pray.

In sharing Our Lady’s words from July 2, 2010, we have to ask, how can Her words be applied? Actually, the answer is a little more “practical” than one might think. A Friend of Medjugorje shared, ten years ago today, in his simple words, how to practically apply these words:

To know Her Son is to know His principles. To know His principles is to know truth. To know truth is to rid oneself of all that is untrue, thereby content with self, you will love self, knowing you stand true before God.

from A Call of Truth is to Result in a Return to Truth – July 2, 2010

How much more simpler can we get? We learn that our love of self, is directly related to how we stand on truth. Some people refer to this love of self as self-esteem. It is promoted in schools and many places as a positive force. In one aspect it is positive, but only if self-esteem is the esteeem of Christ living in us. Without it, it becomes idolatry of self. If one is wavering in their self-esteem, it is not achieved by people telling you how good you are. You would know deep inside whether their words are true or not. No, self-esteem is achieved by aligning with the truth. And in doing so, we align with Christ Who lives in us.

Yes, Joanne, you are correct, particularly the mother plays a vital role in developing a proper view of self. A Friend of Medjugorje has written about this on numerous occasions and, he says it is the reason why God sent a Mother.

  2. I believe our self worth is developed in our identity with Christ. Yes, we are made in the image and likeness of God. As children grow that identity in Christ is fostered and nurtured by parents, family and the community. However, with the breakdown of the family and all the other terrible influences in our environment lead to disastrous results for the developing self worth of the child. Consequently, I believe the child’s identity, which is made in the image and likeness of God, can be somewhat blocked due to poor nurturing.
