February 19, 2018 A.D.
Once again the nation and world are shocked to see another school shooting, which happened on Ash Wednesday, February 14 in Parkland, Florida. The recent school shooting took the lives of 17 people, has shattered the families of the victims, and sent the nation into grieving. Yet, those who pray, while sorrowful, are not shocked. Our Lady of Medjugorje said on July 30, 1987:
Is it any surprise then why things like school shootings happen?
Before 1963, “public” schools were similar to religious institutions. The Bible was taught. For example, many first grade school books taught the alphabet using Bible quotes which were started with the letters of the alphabet, A,B,C, etc. Throughout all the school text books, the teachings of Christ permeated the lessons if not “built in” directly. Virtues were taught. It is important to note in 1963 when we saw school prayer removed, out went all other material which had any remote reference to Christianity.1
So then, is it any surprise why the removal of the King of Peace from public institutions has resulted in un-peace in those institutions? Nineteen Sixty-Three, was over 50 years ago, but the change does not necessarily happen overnight. The solution to fix the problems is not gun-control. The solution is not more therapy. The solution is Jesus Christ. Nothing less than Him can be accepted. If we want our schools safe, our families safe, our children safe, we must actively entrust them to the One who said, “Let the children come to me and do not hinder them…” Over 50 years of hindering them is showing its results. No doubt, some of the victims were praying people. But, the institution itself (the school) was not protected. Prayer begins in the family, then into the public institutions. Our Lady of Medjugorje continues in the July 30, 1987 message:
Tragedy is always a possibility. But, we have the words which give the solution. It is time to respond and make this a physical reality, so that we can save the human race.
