Normandy and the Battle We Are In Today

A few years ago, A Friend of Medjugorje spoke across France, and visited the Normandy Coast. What follows is part of a talk that followed his visit to Normandy:
 

“…we went to Normandy today or the beaches of Normandy to Omaha beach. In the Cemetery, and it is incredible there to me that out of 10,000 American soldiers every one of them was given one of two things – they either got a cross or they got the star of David. Out of those 10,000 soldiers, it wasn’t questioned whether they were Christian or not. They didn’t wonder if they were going to church, whether they lived a good life. We, as a culture, knew they needed the cross and most of those soldiers, even if they weren’t going to church, wouldn’t object to that.

“We stopped at a church today, Notre Dame of Bayeux, and the historical record said the state took this in 1905. I don’t have the mentality of how you would just allow the state to take this. This is Christianity! This is our Church! Just as we put crosses on every grave out there in Normandy, and didn’t ask them if they were believers or not, all non-believers need the Cross. It is because Christians are vacating and rejecting the Cross that God has allowed it to be taken from us. So this culture, that is rejecting the Cross, is going down…”

The rejection of the Cross, is the rejection of Jesus. The village of Medjugorje erected a Cross on their highest peak, in 1933, to honor the 1900th anniversary of the death of Jesus. Our Lady said of this Cross:

August 31, 1984 

“I love the cross which you have providentially erected on Mount Krizevac in a very special way…”

This village, which accepted the Cross, received Our Lady. This year, on June 25, 2014, will mark the 33rd anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady at Medjugorje. The 33rd year; it is a providential year, a consequential year, falling within the same year as the 70th anniversary of the Normandy D-Day liberation, while this is the 80th anniversary of the completion of the Cross on Cross Mountain in Medjugorje. We need to be in serious prayer these days, for Our Lady has many plans to liberate the world from what enslaves it. There will be battles still to fight and win and She needs us as soldiers for Christ in this war.

As the fog lifted off of these cliffs at Normandy 70 years ago, an entire armada of ships carrying thousands of men in the largest seaborne invasion in the history of the world could be seen making their way towards the coast. Back in 1984, U.S. President Ronald Reagan visited the Normandy cliffs at Pointe du Hoc and spoke these words. They remind us of the battle we are in now against the evil in the world:

“At dawn, on the morning of the 6th of June, 1944, 225 Rangers jumped off the British landing craft and ran to the bottom of these cliffs. Their mission was one of the most difficult and daring of the invasion: to climb these sheer and desolate cliffs and take out the enemy guns. The Allies had been told that some of the mightiest of these guns were here and they would be trained on the beaches to stop the Allied advance.

“The Rangers looked up and saw the enemy soldiers — the edge of the cliffs shooting down at them with machine guns and throwing grenades. And the American Rangers began to climb. They shot rope ladders over the face of these cliffs and began to pull themselves up. When one Ranger fell, another would take his place. When one rope was cut, a Ranger would grab another and begin his climb again. They climbed, shot back, and held their footing. Soon, one by one, the Rangers pulled themselves over the top, and in seizing the firm land at the top of these cliffs, they began to seize back the continent of Europe. Two hundred and twenty-five came here. After two days of fighting, only 90 could still bear arms.”

In the course of these years of Medjugorje, we have seen people come and go, those who continued to pray and sacrifice, and those who cooled off. There have been those who marched into the face of the enemy and won, and those who have died trying.

Just as the soldiers 70 years ago were called upon to help liberate an entire continent from the clutches of an evil system, and in doing so changed the course of history, so too, we are being called by Our Lady to help liberate the world from the grasp of the devil, and change the direction of the world. The task is at times daunting – Be strong in Our Lady. Many times A Friend of Medjugorje, when encountering much persecution and in the face of so many trials would pray to Our Lady, “Mary, I do not have the strength to go on, but You have my decision, my ‘yes’.” Many times in this battle, the decision, the ‘yes’ for Our Lady, is all one will have to continue, with no strength left.
