December 8, 2010 – The Five Days of Prayer

A Medjugorje Gathering:
December 8 at Caritas, for the Re-dedication of the Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages, the motherhouse of operations of spreading the messages of Our Lady, Queen of Peace of Medjugorje.

The 18th Annual Medjugorje gathering of the Five Days of Prayer begins at Caritas of Birmingham, for the Reconciling of Ourselves, our Families and our Nation Back to God. December 8th—the Re-consecration of the Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages.

Field of Apparitions December 8, 2010

The alarm rings at 4 o’clock a.m. They leave their hotels and the city lights and drive down near empty streets to come to an emptier field. It is dark. It is cold, with temperatures uncharacteristically dipping into the 20’s for this time of the year. They have come to pray and their hearts lift when they see other headlights slowing down, small beams of light from flashlights making their way to the same location. And then they see the candlelight and the glow it provides around the statue of the Virgin Mary. She is the reason they come. Her voice called out from the wilderness, “Prepare the way of the Lord.” She is the John the Baptist of our time, but a thousand times a thousand the more. She is also our companion on this journey in which She makes sweet every road that is bitter. Our Lady of Medjugorje said:

July 25, 1987

“…Dear children, pray and accept all that God is offering you on a way which is bitter. But at the same time, God will reveal every sweetness to whomever begins to go on that way…”

Kids playing on Hay Bales during Rosary December 8, 2010

On the edge of the Field of Apparitions, as the adults kneel to pray on the site where Our Lady has appeared to Medjugorje visionary, Marija, the many children that are here for the five days of prayer flock to huge round bales of hay that have recently been harvested by the Caritas Community. While the adults kneel shivering in the cold, children fling off layers of clothing as they romp, climb, jump and laugh with each other in a playground made by nature. Some may ask, shouldn’t they be praying too? When a similar question was asked of Medjugorje visionary, Mirjana, she replied it is enough for little children to see their parents daily praying together to instill in them, as they grow, the importance of prayer. This has also been the Community’s experience. As children grow and mature they gradually leave behind the “play” to join in the “pray.”

readying incense for the Re-Dedication of the Tabernacle of Our Lady's Messages December 8, 2010

Caritas Community members prepare for the re-consecration of the Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages.

A promise was made many years ago to the people who helped build The Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages. As this working machine for Our Lady’s Medjugorje messages was first dedicated on December 8, 1993, on the Feast of Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception, every December 8th the Community and pilgrims gather to re-consecrate the building to the hearts of Jesus and Mary while remembering in prayer all those who contributed to bringing it about.

The Community’s young men lead the procession through all parts of the building as it is blessed with holy water and holy salt. All the while litanies are sung, one after another. It was once asked of our founder when he first committed to seeing the Tabernacle built, “What if the chastisements happen tomorrow? All this effort and expense will have been for nothing.” The founder replied, that if The Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages saves only one soul from eternal damnation, it would have been worth everything. That was 17 years ago. It cannot be calculated how much good Our Lady has been able to accomplish in multitudes of souls around the world through Her Medjugorje messages being spread through the printing presses, shipping department, the prayer gatherings held here for Our Lady’s apparitions, etc…all of which the Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages houses.

Procession in the Caritas print shop December 8, 2010

The Caritas Community’s young men lead the procession through Our Lady’s print shop. The statue is atop Caritas’ Heidelberg press, a remarkable machine that has literally printed hundreds of millions of sheets of paper with Our Lady’s Medjugorje messages. From the book of messages, Words from Heaven, to the monthly publications of Words of the Harvesters and the Caritas Newsletter, to millions of the booklets by A Friend of Medjugorje, pictures, posters, evangelizing materials—the press is always in motion. Though the physical year of 2010 is slowly coming to an end, with advent, the Church year is just beginning and on December 8th, when each year we re-consecrate the Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages, we are already looking towards another year of spreading Our Lady’s messages to new hearts around the world.

  1. Again, Our Blessed Mother has reminded me in a gentle way that it’s God’s will not mine that I need to follow, even when it is a struggle. God never promised that following his plan would always be easy, just that he would be with us while we do, maintaining faith in His plan keeps us on the path to salvation. Finding this web site has been a blessing I greatly needed. Thank you Blessed Mother!

I am so happy to have read about what you had to say about taking my cross and following Him… I went thru a divorce and there was much suffering for both myself and my children and seeing how my children hurt, hurt me even more… that was 36 years ago. There were times when I wasn’t sure of anything but I knew I loved Jesus and wanted to follow him. So thank you for that writing, it was a confirmation for me

The community has kept me abreast of the messages of Our Lady for all these years, I have been to Caritas 3 times and find it Holy, reverent, and peaceful.Just recently up here in Boston, Ivan was here at Saint Leonard’s Parish where Fr. Antonio is pastor. The church was full for the 5pm Saturday Vigil Mass. (I am a Lector there as well) It was wonderful Mass. After Mass Ivan and the rest of us in Church prayed the Holy Rosary and during our praying Our Blessed Mother appeared to Ivan and afterwards he explained what Our Lady had said as well as explaining to us what She has been trying to tell us for all these years and for Her coming. It was a wonderful, wonderful evening and I believe everyone went home a little humbled.
