Caritas Silver Jubilee: What Happened on July 6, 2008 and 2009

July 6, 2008

Though the Five Days of Prayer with Our Lady, July 1-5, 2008 ended, Marjia stayed for another two weeks on a private visit with the founder of Caritas and the community before returning to Medjugorje for the Youth Festival the first of August. Though the large crowds had left the day the retreat ended, there was still a small crowd gathered in the Field at the time of Our Lady’s apparition which was in the Bedroom, at 11:40 a.m.

Our Lady continued to bless those gathered in the Field during the apparition to Marija in the Bedroom.

Our Lady had said on July 5, 2009, to the Medjugorje visionary Marija, that She would appear on July 6 whenever we prayed. At 8:15 a.m., the Caritas community gathered in the Bedroom for the Rosary. Just before the Rosary, the community wrote out petitions to Our Lady and placed them on the Bed. Our Lady appeared to Marija at approximately 9:00 a.m. The apparition lasted for 3 minutes. The following is Marija’s description of the apparition of July 6, 2009:

“In the moment of the apparition when Our Lady came, I recommended all of us and our intentions, and all the people who are in the Field. I make many recommendations. Our Lady began to pray. She prayed over us and She blessed us all. And after, She stayed in silence, and I recommended in a special way (Marija named several community members including a community child, a community member who is in the hospital, and one of the community mothers who is in her ninth month of pregnancy). And Our Lady smiled and She gave Her blessing and said “Go in peace.”

When it comes time for Marija to leave Caritas and return to her home in Italy or to Medjugorje, it is always bittersweet for the community when the last apparition comes and to say goodbye to Our Lady. Each member of the community takes the time to write down their petitions to Our Lady and to express their heart to Her.

Some gather on the outside porch, while others find whatever space they can inside the house to write their petitions—and though they are all in their own separate and private thoughts, there is the experience of a beautiful unity within the community as all their thoughts are on loving Our Lady and desiring to see Her intentions fulfilled in their lives.

With all the work of getting prepared for Our Lady’s coming, with additional projects the community may be working on, and then all the responsibilities that come with hosting an event that thousands of people attend, sometimes this going-away letter to Our Lady is the only opportunity for the community to settle their hearts and enter into the silence of their hearts without distractions before She leaves.

Seeing everyone with pens and paper, the very youngest of the community also want to make their own contribution. While parents or grandparents help them to think of what to say to Our Lady, they happily scribble and draw pictures on their paper imitating what they see the adults and the youth doing. It is a beautiful way for children to learn how to make their petitions known to God and Our Lady.

One by one, as community members enter the Bedroom, they place their folded petitions on the Bed where Our Lady will appear and receive them.

During this apparition of July 6, 2009, Marija presented to Our Lady three of our community members—a young girl who was having a birthday, a young mother who was expecting to give birth any day (her baby girl was born the day after Marija left), and one of our single consecrated men who was in the last stages of his life, preparing to be born into heaven. Our Lady smiled upon receiving their names. She gave Her blessing and then said, “Go in peace.”

  1. A close Senior girlfriend who lives in Houston, lost power at 2 am on Monday.  She got it back finally Thursday late but still no water, which now must be boiled before use until Monday.  Fortunately, she had a wood fireplace but not much wood stored.  She froze but better off than neighbors too afraid to use their fireplaces.  Hasn’t bathed and has pets.  Your broadcast was spot on with the empty commercial skyscrapers all lit up and the homes had nothing. People who didn’t sign up for fixed price kilowatt hour are now being charged $9/an hour and huge electric bills, and the fixed companies are filing for bankruptcy.  Texas has their own electric grid separate from the federal so nobody in Washington DC cares and are happy to see a red state go blue.  It’s a big wake up call for me. In spite of moving to North Florida from the highly populated South Florida, I still don’t have my own infrastructure, my own food and supplies, a wood fireplace (mine is gas), and much remains to be done.  I heard your message loud and clear. Thank you and God Bless Caritas of Birmingham. Susan, Lake City, FL

  2. Thank you for this broadcast!  Let’s pray for those who stockpile food so that they may find it in their hearts to share with those who have nothing….  And what about those who depend upon prescription medications in order to stay alive? My physician allowed me to stockpile to some degree when the corona virus hit, just in case supplies became short.  However, I doubt that he will allow me to start stockpiling medicine because I may need it in a future crisis, especially since medications have expiration dates.    Nevertheless, my life with God gives me peace about this because I figure that if I run out of medicine in a crisis, it must be time for me to leave this world.  😀 Blessings to you and your community!

  3. Thank you for this latest radio wave broadcast on February 18th. My whole family lives in Texas.  Everything you’ve spoken of is truly happening. Please Lord forgive us for our sins!
