On December 13, 1988, Our Lady appeared to Marija in the Bedroom of Apparitions, at the home of a Friend of Medjugorje and his wife. During the apparition, Our Lady conveyed to Marija that She desired a community at this site. After the apparition Marija said:
“Our Lady wants to start a community here.”
A Friend of Medjugorje, knowing in his heart that the reason he moved away from town and out into the country with his family was to get away from people, asked, “Community? What kind of community?” Marija relayed that possibly Our Lady wanted something like what Marija had seen in Italy with consecrated families and single people.
Kathleen Martin, one of few people present when Our Lady relayed to Marija that She desired a community here, was asked in 2010 to give some remembrance of that time and the formation of the community. Kathleen said that first, community forms within the family, then as people see that and are attracted to it, they join that family in their walk, and that is how community is formed.
This is a very good glimpse of the walk which a Friend of Medjugorje took, in changing his life, his work, his family, his opinions, etc., to conform to Our Lady’s Medjugorje messages. A few years later after this message was given from Our Lady, the first community members, two single women joined, and from there families and other single people, with families now forming within the Community.
While we are only giving just a few tidbits of this important feast day today, an exhaustive section on the Community of Caritas was released last year with the new Mej v3.0. Visit here to begin reading…
